Joshua Odeyemi is an environmental geoscientist/hydrogeologist with over 5 years of work experience in hydrogeology, environmental geology, and engineering geology in both the private and public sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Technology in Applied Geology and is currently pursuing his Master’s in Tropical Hydrogeology and Environmental Engineering. His interest covers water quality, water accessibility and sustainability. His goal is to be a top hydrogeologist/environmental consultant and to be a part of mainstreaming of sustainable policies that will benefit present and future generations.

What are the most memorable or impactful experiences you've had as a scholarship recipient?

I was given a soft landing as soon as I got to Germany. I was taught German language, given free accommodation, travel allowance on arrival and stipend. I didn’t have to bother about anything.

What major challenges or hindrance did you face in your scholarship pursuit and how did you overcome this?

From 2019 onward, I encountered a series of rejections (love letters) and waitlist placements in my scholarship applications. However, I remained determined and refused to be discouraged.

What advice would you give to students who are considering applying for scholarships?

Don’t give up. Keep trying! Put your best effort into your applications – scholarships are earned, not given! Ask questions and seek guidance. Above all, PRAY!
